Our response to the Clwyd/Hart Review into NHS Complaints Handling

Read our letter to Right Honourable Ann Clwyd MP and Professor Tricia Hart to share what our research has shown about people’s experiences of making a complaint about health and care services.
After the publication of the Francis report, that looked at the failings of Mid Staffordshire NHS Trust, the Prime Minister and the Secretary of State for Health commissioned a review of NHS hospital complaints handling.

We share our response to the report into the failings of Mid Staffordshire NHS Foundation Trust.
The Francis Inquiry report was published on 6 February 2013 and examined the causes of the serious failings in care at Mid Staffordshire NHS Foundation Trust between 2005 and 2009.

Recent events at Care Quality Commission (CQC) in relation to University Hospitals Morecambe Bay highlight once again the devastation caused to children and their families by a system that failed to listen.
We pay tribute to their determination. It was their relentless drive and refusal to accept the status quo that ensured these failings were brought to light.

Highlighting our concerns about local Healthwatch regulations

We share a number of issues in relation to the local Healthwatch regulations and ask for clarity to avoid any confusion.
We have also proposed to work with the Department of Health and the Local Government Association to produce guidance for local Healthwatch and local authorities to assist them to correctly interpret the regulations.
