Our response to the CQC's national A&E survey

The CQC has today published their latest survey results about people’s experiences of emergency departments in England.

The 2014 Accident and Emergency Patient Survey shows that most patients have a good experience of attending A&E, rating it seven or above out of ten.

However, the survey results show that more needs to be done to ensure that A&E services are safe, effective and responsive.

Responding to the findings, our Chief Executive, Katherine Rake said:

“In light of all the recent horror stories about the country's A&E departments, it's encouraging to see patients giving the service they receive such a positive review.

“But there is clearly room for improvement. Doctors, nurses and hospital bosses all need to pay close attention to what the 1 in 5 say about why they didn't get the help they needed in order to drive up standards.

“Only by facing up to when things go wrong can the NHS reassure all of us that, if and when we need it, we all have access to world class emergency healthcare.”
