Our response to the Nuffield Trust 'ratings review'

Should there be ‘Ofsted-style’ ratings for health and social care providers? We share our views.

In November 2012, the Rt. Hon Jeremy Hunt MP, Secretary of State for Health, commissioned Dr Jennifer Dixon CBE and the Nuffield Trust to consider whether there should be an ‘Ofsted-style’ ratings for health and social care providers and whether aggregate ratings of provider performance should be used in health and social care in England.

We have submitted our response to Nuffield Trusts consultation on the topic, highlighting the role local Healthwatch could play and things that should be considered such as:

  • Involving people in and users of health and care services in the development of any system

  • Protecting patient information, ensuring that people can give feedback anonymously
