Our letter to the Secretary of State with recommendations for creating an effective and compassionate health and social care complaints system

We have written to the Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt to take action with a seven-point plan for reform to help create an effective and compassionate complaints system.

From our conversations with the public, we know that people simply do not know how to complain, and that the complaints system is far too complex and confusing. We know that people lack confidence in the system to help resolve their complaints and do not feel that they will be taken seriously.

We have written to Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt to highlight the need for action to ensure that complaints systems across health and social care delivers justice for people when services fail them, and that services learn from their own and other’s mistakes to prevent the same mistakes happening again.

We also shared our seven point action plan to show how the government can help transform people’s experiences of making a complaint about health and social care services.
