Summary of report content

Healthwatch South Tyneside conducted an unannounced enter and view visit to South Tyneside District Hospital ward 20 (care of the elderly) in January 2020.

The report found that staff were knowledgeable and trained in the ward policies and were confident with patient records and transfers. Patients were satisfied with the care they received on the ward. However, some people made complaints relating to delayed responses to buzzers.

A number of recommendations were made including better communication between staff and patients and improve catheter care.

The Trust responded well to the recommendations.
