Summary of report content
Healthwatch Shropshire condcuted an Enter and View visit in August 2019 to the Respiratory ward in the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital. 12 staff, patients and relatives were spoken to during the visit.
Patients reported that the ward was too noisy to sleep or relax, however, they felt that staff treated them very well. The food quality and choice was rated as poor by patients. Staff seemed rushed and busy, often relating to low staff levels.
A number of recommendations were made, including that due care should be taken to limit the amount of noise the ward generates; considering staff vacancies and gaps in staffing levels; improving entertainment for patients being treated in the ward.
The service provider responded well to the recommendations and has outlines ways in which these will be addressed.
