Summary of report content
Healthwatch Shropshire conducted an announced Enter and View visit at Hinstock Manor Residential Care Home on the 27th March 2019. They spoke to two members of staff and nine residents. They observed the environment and completed an observation checklist based on The King's Fund environment assessment tool: 'is your care home Dementia friendly?'.
They found that staff worked effectively and care, the decor was not Dementia friendly, the new decor and bedrooms were light and airy, and residents were supported to make their own choices.
Healthwatch made the following recommendations; to ensure redecoration is consistently 'Dementia Friendly' across the whole home with particularly attention to carpet choice, toilet seats, signage, handrails and lighting, to ensure the outside area is safe and secure, to update their website, to increase font size on the menus, and to include more exercise in the activities.
