Summary of report content
Healthwatch Brighton and Hove conducted a literature review of the extent of digital exclusion nationally and in Sussex, with particular reference to how COVID-19 has had an impact.
The report highlighted that there is a large proportion of the UK population with limited digital skills. Most people are generally pragmatic about the role of digital solutions - 80% agree that using technology has been a vital support to them during the pandemic. In general, older people and those with disabilities were less happy to have remote appointments and generally preferred them face-to-face.
A number of recommendations and considerations were made to mitigate the impact of digital exclusion, for example, incorporating within other interest groups, using assistive technology, and engaging Digital Champions.
