Our response to Department of Health Consultation: Protecting health & care information

Read our response to The Department of Health’s consultation on proposals to strengthen the controls on the use of an individuals health and care data.

The government is proposing the creation of secure safe havens where local organisations will have access under strong controls to information from people’s personal care records.

We have shared our response to the consultation to highlight our concerns that include:

  • How Accredited Safe Havens would operate and be monitored

  • The proposed timeframe for the regulations to be put into place being unrealistic and not allowing enough time for scrutiny

  • The security of people’s data and how people would be able to access the information that is held about them.

Our response also includes issues that people have been sharing with local Healthwatch across the country about worries about the security of their data.
